Matka.fi is a door-to-door journey planning service provided by Traficom that combines different modes of transport and suggests different travel options. The service suggests a route from point A to point B (from street address to street address) at a given date and time.
Information about domestic ferry routes and timetables is available via multiple channels, including the websites of shipping companies operating services and services combining information from various sources, such as the following:
We encourage travellers to look into different services and use those that best meet their needs. Ferry transport information and services are being continuously developed to improve their coverage and quality. However, it is always good to check travel information from transport operators’ official timetables.
If your feedback concerns transport services, please contact the party responsible for the transport service directly, such as the relevant city administration (HSL, Joensuu, Kuopio, etc.), transport operator, VR or ELY Centre. Please mention in your feedback that the feedback concerns information on matka.fi.
Feedback about matka.fi can also be submitted via Traffic Customer Service (External link).
Traficom does not guarantee that the suggested transport services are actually available and will provide no compensation for any costs resulting from a suggested route not being viable.
Supplying information for the matka.fi service is voluntary. As such, users of the journey planner are urged to verify the availability of market-driven transport services, especially bus services, by contacting the relevant transport operator directly or using other journey planning services, as not all market-driven operators supply information for the matka.fi service.
Some examples of other available journey planning services are provided below. If you know of any journey planning services that should be included on the list, you can report them to joukkoliikenne@traficom.fi.

Use the “Settings” function and try out different route options by adjusting e.g. the “Avoid transfers” and “Avoid walking” options. If you are looking for a specific bus station or travel centre, add a clarification to the search, such as ”Kankaanpää linja”, if you cannot find it with the place name alone. You can also set the origin and destination on the map using the right mouse button or, on most phones, by pressing and holding on the map. You can also click on a stop on the map and set it as the route’s origin or destination. You can also set the desired time by overwriting the displayed time with e.g. "1200”.
Yes you can, using your browser’s print option or the Print button displayed in some views. or using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl-P.
The print functionality will be improved during the further development of the service.
The information is based on information supplied by public transport authorities, transport operators, VR and Finavia. The data sources include the public transport aggregate database and public transport route and timetable data supplied by LMJ and HSL. In addition to this, individual operators can publish data on their service using the RAE tool and by submitting their data in a compatible format (GTFS) to the Finap service.
The route suggestions are based on estimated transport times, but the realisation of the suggested transport services cannot be guaranteed.
The maps and information on streets, buildings, stop locations, etc. are provided by © OpenStreetMap contributors and Digiroad. If you wish, you can contribute (External link) to the maintenance of the map information. Address information is exported from the Digital and Population Data Services Agency’s Building and Dwelling Register.
The service displays stop-specific timetables and route maps, including real-time information, if available. Real-time information is displayed in green. The service also displays the movement of vehicles on the map.
For now, real-time information is supplied only by a few operators. The service will be expanded in the near future to include real-time information from more operators.
